It's back! From 9 July to 25 August, the Veranos de la Villa festival will fill the capital with numerous cultural and leisure events—many of which are free of charge. The 40th edition of Veranos de la Villa kicks off on 9 July at Enrique Tierno Galván Park as Serafín Zubiri , accompanied by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir , performs Valencian singer Nino Bravo 's greatest hits. The closing concert on 25 August will see Sol Picó’s contemporary dance company take to the stage at Matadero Madrid . Between these two dates, the festival has of course put together a wide range of cultural and leisure offerings each night, making the hot summer evenings more bearable for those planning to spend the summer months in the capital.
The jam-packed, varied programme will bring us concerts, theatre, dance, zarzuela and chotis performances, opera, circus acts, exhibitions, outdoor cinema sessions and children’s shows as the city will once more become a festival hub for people of all ages.
This 2024 edition also features Japan as the guest country . Thanks to collaboration with the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Embassy , we'll have the opportunity to find out more about this intriguing country which impressively combines tradition and innovation. At Conde Duque Cultural Centre , visitors can enjoy a fusion of flamenco and Japanese kabuki , meanwhile, the bulk of the programme dedicated Japan will take place at Espacio Cultural Serrería Belga . This cultural space will host lectures, story-telling, talks on gastronomy and history, workshops on different aspects of Japanese culture (such as video games and manga ), tea ceremony demonstrations and some fabulous exhibitions exploring 16th- and 17th-century Japanese folding screens and fans and kimonos .
Flamenco will also take centre stage with the help of artists like María Terremoto, Rafa del Calli and Paco Soto , and we'll also be able to take in wonderful performances by Compañía Nacional de Danza , the Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band (BSMM) , young and established Spanish artists such as Camela , and international stars, including Carla Bruni , from France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Portugal and China.
