The Central Courtyard at the Conde Duque Cultural Centre will host a different theatre show from 25 to 27 July, in which the lyrical genre will be equally celebrated. A project created and directed by Nuria Castejón, with dramaturgy by Álvaro Tato and conducted by José Antonio Irastorza, which forms part of the Veranos de la Villa festival.
From a neighbourhood courtyard on a party evening to the flying carpets of the Far East, from the carnival Patio de Cuchilleros to gypsy bonfires by the roadside, via Caribbean islands or suburban back streets, this dreamlike journey into the heart of Zarzuela brings together for the first time the most outstanding dance pieces conceived in the zarzuela scores: those intermissions and dance passages become a way of telling the story of Zarzuela through the free expression of the body.
Throughout the show pieces by the absolute masters of the genre will be danced: Bretón, Chapí, Chueca, Vives, Giménez, Serrano, Soutullo and Vert, Lleó, Roig, including some new popular songs through different styles, such as Classical Spanish, Bolera School, Flamenco, Ballet and Contemporary Dance, combining the different styles and languages. It all comes together with music, song and a libretto in verse and prose that covers episodes of a tragicomic and delirious dream full of characters.
Zarzuela in Dance is an original production by Teatro de la Zarzuela. It is a production by the Amadeo Vives Lyrical Company, Pierrot and Colombina Theatre Productions.
