The director, David Serrano, author of Los Hijos or Port Arthur, and the producers of Billy Elliot, the Musical have developed a new version of the famous Hollywood musical. With its well-known scores and spectacular choreographies, this production has become one of the icons of the 20th century pop culture and can now be seen at Teatro Apolo from 25 September to 1 December.
Set in 1959, the plot reveals the adventures of a group of students at Rydell High School, whose lives move between love affairs, car races and rock and roll.
It tells of the love story between the rebel, Danny Zuko, and the innocent Sandy Olsson, who met in summer, but said their goodbyes at the end of the summer thinking that they would never see each other again as Sandy was returning to Australia with her family.
However, Sandy’s family changes its mind and decides to stay in the United States, enrolling Sandy in the high school where her friend, Frenchy, member of a girls group called The Pink Ladies, also studies. What Sandy does not know is that Danny, who is the co-leader of the T-Birds, is also enrolled there.
The film, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, was nominated for an Oscar in 1978 in the category of Best Song for Hopelessly Devoted to You and was nominated for Golden Globes in 1978 for the Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Original Song.
