First Date, the Musical

The famous Broadway comedy is coming to Madrid for the first time, more specifically to the Gran Teatro CaixaBank Príncipe Pío, to laugh and reflect on relationships, expectations and the possibility of finding love in the most unexpected places. This musical comedy can be enjoyed from Fridays to Sundays, until 8 September.

The plot revolves around a blind date between Aaron, a quiet and conservative banker, and Casey, a Bohemian and eccentric artist. A priori, it would appear that the date is doomed to fail. However, by means of a contemporary soundtrack and a frenzied pace, the show pokes fun at the typical awkward situations and the mishaps that may arise on a first date.

In an unexpected twist, the imagination of the two main characters gives rise to a series of secondary characters who burst onto the stage, ranging from their best friends and former partners, to their over-protective parents. Even social media comes to life for live commentary on the disastrous date.

Can Aaron and Casey turn this date into something special before the bill arrives? A prying but well-meaning waiter will be vital in discovering the outcome of this peculiar evening.

First Date is a show written by Austin Winsberg with music by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner. It was premièred on Broadway in 2013, where it was a big hit with the public and critics alike. Since then, it has been translated into several languages and has been performed in countries all over the world and it has been well-received by audiences.
