On 29 July, the Complutense University Botanical Garden (Alfonso XIII Royal Botanical Garden) will be playing host to performances by two big names on the music scene, The Selecter and Fat Freddy’s Drop, who are sharing the spotlight as part of the Noches del Botánico festival. A concert that takes the audience from ska to soul, by way of jazz and rhythm and blues.
The New Zealand band Fat Freddy's Drop formed in 1999 and is composed of seven musicians from Wellington, whose musical style has been characterised by any combination of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues and techno. At this concert, they will be performing tracks from their eighth album, Blackbird Returns, released in 2023, one of their best to date.
The Selecter is a British ska band and was at the forefront of the Two Tone scene, along with The Specials, Madness, The Beat, Bad Manners and The Bodysnatchers. Originally from Coventry, England, it was formed in 1979 by several musicians who came from different musical backgrounds: Pauline Black, Neol Davies, Charles Bembridge, Compton Amanor, Gaps Hendrickson Desmond Brown and Charley Anderson.
