Come From Away

The multi-award winning musical, which has been a hit on Broadway and in London for seven years, is coming to Teatro Marquina from 12 September to 30 November, with performances from Thursday to Sunday.  It is a moving and real-life story in which it is possible to imagine that a world in which borders and wars are unable to stop the evolution of the human spirit.

The show called  Come From Away, based on real people and events, tells the story of more than 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were unexpectedly grounded on Gander Island, New Foundland (Terranova) in Canada and the small Newfoundland community that invited them into their lives with open hearts.

On 11 September 2001, the United States closed its air space, leading to hundreds of planes being diverted from their destinations.  A total of 38 planes had to land on this island, instantly doubling its population. While the world was witnessing one of the worst tragedies in history, these passengers were stranded in this village for days.  Thanks to the empathy and dedication of the inhabitants, they were able to regain their faith in mankind.

This musical is now coming to Madrid thanks to The Stage Company Spain. It has won prestigious awards, such as the Tony, Olivier, Helen Hayer, Drama Desk, Ace and Hugo Awards, among others, as well as receiving a Grammy nomination.  The book, music and songs are the work of Irene Sankoff and David Hein, with the adaptation by Carla Calabrese and Marcelo Kotliar. The musical conductor is Santiago Rosso and the general director is Carla Calabrese.
