First opened in the summer of 2023, this travel agency specialising in routes through Africa has a new cultural centre in the area of Conde Duque, very close to Plaza de España, where its Madrid offices are also located. Through various outreach initiatives, it shows the public the cultural diversity of the African continent.
The centre, located right on the street, puts on a number of different events every month dedicated exclusively to Africa. It will include collaborations with pan-Africanist initiatives such as Literafricas, with whom they will share a reading club, as well as Rift’s Encounters with specialist journalist Chema Caballero. There will also be space to talk about tourism that is respectful of local culture and nature, as well as specific countries with initiatives such as Africa in Miniature.
The new Rift Valley Expeditions centre is spread over two floors: one of them acts as the company’s offices in the city and the other as a cultural space, which can seat up to 30 people. With this change of premises, Rift Valley is also expanding its team in the city to serve travellers and industry professionals. In addition to this centre, the company has a further seven between Spain and Africa: Barcelona, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Arusha, Libreville, Entebbe and Cotonou.
Previously, the company had a small space in the Madrid Natural History Office.
Rift Valley Expeditions, founded in 2014 by photographer Toni Espadas, has a team of travel specialists who share a common passion for the unexplored places of the African continent, promoting tourism that is respectful of local cultures and environments.
