The prestigious Chinese pianist, Yuja Wang, will perform at the Teatro Real for the first time on 14 November, giving a performance in collaboration with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, which brings together musicians from 27 nationalities.
Born in Beijing (China) in 1987, Yuja Wang is a classical pianist who started studying piano at the age of six. She comes from a family of artists, her mother being a dancer and her father a percussionist. At the age of 15, Wang entered the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, (United States), where she studied under Gary Graffman for five years, graduating in 2008.
In spite of her youth, her career rapidly took off and she soon became one of the most sought after soloists on the international music scene. Her repertoire ranges from classical works to contemporary compositions and her performance style, characterised by impeccable technique and a great deal of expressiveness, she has become an iconic figure in the piano world.
Since 2013, Wang has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Staatskapelle Berlin, the China Philharmonic, the Filarmonica della Scala, the London Philharmonic, the Orchestre of Paris or the National Orchestra of Spain. She has released seven albums and has won several awards, including the Aspen Musical Festival competition in 2002 and the Gilmore Young Artist Award in 2005, given to the most promising young pianists.
