The Spanish Ballet of the Community of Madrid, directed by Jesús Carmona, is coming to the Sala Roja (Red Hall) at the Teatros del Canal from 12 to 27 October to present a double bill with Spanish Suite, Op. 47 and Epiphany of Flamenco.
The Spanish Suite, Op. 47 by Isaac Albéniz is choreographed in its original order for the first time ever, whilst it is also the company’s first production. Epiphany of Flamenco is a celebration of this dance. It is a journey through time, from the styles forged between Spain and America, known as cantes de ida y vuelta (roundtrip songs), to Caracoles, the most representative flamenco style from Madrid.
The Spanish Ballet of the Community of Madrid is a new ensemble created on the initiative of the Community of Madrid’s Regional Ministries of Education, Science and Universities and Culture, Tourism and Sport, which forms part of the Regional Government's Integral Dance Plan. Its intention is to promote choreographic innovation and the preservation of the heritage of Spanish dance in its academic modalities. It also seeks to disseminate folklore among young people.
This ensemble is led by the dancer and choreographer, Jesús Carmona, winner of the National Dance Prize 2020 and Benois de la Danse for the World’s Best Male Dancer, awarded by the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. He was also a winner in the 21st edition of the Community of Madrid Culture Awards in the Dance category.
