American musician Kamasi Washington, one of the most striking figures on today’s jazz scene, will be performing at La Riviera on 7 October, presenting his new studio album Fearless Movement released in 2024.
Jazz saxophonist, composer and producer Kamasi Washington is known primarily as a tenor saxophonist. The musician entered the world of big band music when he joined the Gerald Wilson Orchestra for the album In My Time released in 2006. Following his collaboration on To Pimp A Butterfly (2015), probably Kendrick Lamar’s opus magnum , and his album The Epic (2015), Washington secured his place as a cornerstone of the jazz scene today.
His first album was a solid work divided into three parts (The Plan, The Glorious Tale and The Historic Repetition), incorporating elements of hip hop, funk, soul and African melodies into his jazz sound. In 2017 he released the album Harmony Of Difference, which soon became a firm favourite among critics, followed by Heaven and Earth (2018), a collection of twenty-three songs, featuring the five songs from the EP The Choice (2018), hidden tracks included in the vinyl version and the CD of the album. The album includes songs such as Hub-Tones, Fists of Fury and Connections.
Now the musician is embarking on a new tour to present his album Fearless Movement, released in May of 2024, an album that focuses on the everyday, an exploration of grass-roots life.
