From 4 to 13 October, Hispanidad 2024 will be taking place, an event that has reached its fourth edition and is putting Madrid on the map in the celebration of the Spanish language (spoken by more than 600 million people in the world) and the different Hispanic cultures with an international programme that includes music, literature, art and food at various locations around Madrid. In 2024, Mexico will be the special guest country, and more than 100 activities have been organised with the presence of artists such as Manuel Turizo, Yotuel, Valeria Castro, Elsa and Elmar, Diego Torres, Las Cendejas and Los Sabandeños, among others.
Madrid City Council is collaborating for the second year running in the cultural programming of the Hispanidad festival, promoted by Madrid’s Regional Government. The Plaza de Matadero Madrid will be the main venue for the activities. There will be a total of seven free concerts, and on 12 October, a national holiday marking Hispanic Day, you can enjoy music and fireworks in the Plaza de Cibeles at 9:30pm. In addition, the municipal markets will be joining in the celebrations with a programme of special activities.
With the slogan All accents have a place in Madrid, the celebration will also extend to several other venues around the city such as the Plaza Mayor, the Puerta del Sol and the squares of La Remonta and Callao, hosting more than 100 activities including a free concert by the Colombian singer Manuel Turizo in the Puerta de Alcalá on 6 October. The Latin Grammy nominated artist is taking up the baton from Camilo and Carlos Vives who performed on this same stage in the 2022 and 2023 editions of this festival, respectively.
The fourth edition will also feature the likes of Cuban artist Yotuel, Valeria Castro, Colombian Elsa and Elmar (from Colombia), Argentine Diego Torres (Argentina), La Cendejas and the band Los Sabandeños, as well as renowned Hispanic American groups and soloists from Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Spain, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay. Audiences can enjoy performances by Alejandro and María Laura, Alex Ferreira, Bratty, Cuatro Pesos de Tipina, Diego Guerrero, El Búho, Fruko y sus Tesos, Grupo Extra, Javiera Mena, Kumbia Boruka, La Yegros, La-33, Lara91K, NANPA Basic, Paquito D'Rivera, Rocío Márquez & Bronquio, Rosario La Tremendita, and Zuaraz, among many others.
For the first time this year, there will be a Cabalgata de la Hispanidad, with representatives from all participating countries parading through Madrid’s Gran Vía on six spectacular floats.
Also, flamenco, declared by the Regional Government to be a Cultural Interest Asset (BIC), will once again have a special role thanks to the participation of Corral de la Morería, which will return to the stage after the success achieved in the 2023 edition, when it filled the Plaza Mayor. Likewise, the event will coincide with the première of the new production by the Ballet Español de la Comunidad de Madrid on 12 October in the Sala Roja auditorium at Teatros del Canal.
