Fuente

From 4 October to 8 December, the Conde Duque Contemporary Culture Centre will become home to the Fuente project, designed by architect Corvin Cristian. This is the first time the centre has collaborated with Concéntrico, the Logroño International Festival of Architecture and Design, launched in 2015, which every year explores the urban environment and the city.

Fuente is the first project selected for the Festival, which leads the way in terms of initiatives that rethink urban environments, their uses and their sustainability. Organised by La Rioja’s Cultural Foundation of Architects together with the architect Javier Peña Ibáñez, the Festival invites you to explore the city through installations, exhibitions, meetings and activities that propose new uses for the environment and strengthen the idea of community in public spaces.

The installation chosen for Conde Duque is a fountain made up of convex mirrors similar to those used for traffic purposes, representing a zoomorphic figure that could well be an octopus, an alien or another fantastic being. The mirrors rotate, reflecting themselves and their movement. From the “branches” or “arms” that hold these mirrors, jets of water spray from a multitude of small pumps, hence the name Fuente, meaning fountain, giving a new use and purpose to the old military courtyard of the barracks.
