The Alfonso XIII Royal Botanical Garden located in the Complutense University will host the first edition of the Chefs on Fire gastronomic festival in Madrid on 5 and 6 October. Some of the most renowned faces on today’s gastronomic scene will come together to showcase their creations in an event that also includes live music by six artists each day.
After six successful years in Portugal, Chefs on Fire has established itself as a benchmark for international gastronomic entertainment. This prestigious festival is now coming to a natural and sustainable environment in Madrid, whose common thread is the aroma of wood, fire and embers.
This event challenges 20 major figures from the national and international gastronomic scene to leave their facilities to cook solely with fire and wood. Barbecues, grills, bonfires, rotisseries or griddles, all fed with wood and charcoal fires. Furthermore, all the dishes will be created live, in full view of the attendees, who will be able to talk to the chefs and learn more about their dishes.
The Madrid edition includes the presence of great international chefs, such as Janaína Torres from A Casa do Porco (1 Michelin Green Star, São Paulo), recognised as the world’s best chef by 'The World's 50 Best Restaurants'; Tekuna Gachechiladze, the “Queen of Modern Georgian Cuisine” and owner of five restaurants in Tblisi (Cafe Littera, Culinarium, Khasheria, Teko’s Tacos and Akura San); Massimiliano Delle Vedove; Pablo Rivero; and Guido Tassi, among others.
They are joined by the best national talent, such as Lucía Freitas from A Tafona; Javi Estévez from La Tasquería; Carlos Casillas from Barro; Miguel Carretero from Santerra; Iñigo Urrechu from Urrechu, Urrechu Velázquez, El Cielo de Urrechu, A Kangas and Zalacaín; Juan D’Onofrio from Chispa Bistró; Roberto Foronda from Tripea; and Rafa Panatieri from Sartoria Panatieri and Brabo.
In collaboration with Turismo de Portugal and Turismo de Cascais, some of Portugal's most renowned chefs are also joining the list, such as Henrique Sá Pessoa, Vasco Coelho Santos, João Rodrigues and Tiago Penão.
Thanks to the diversity of the chefs, roasts can be savoured, along with very different dishes, techniques and flavours, from vegetarian to desserts, pizzas or sushi. The offer is rounded off with the participation of 12 great restaurants from Madrid that will offer their "Bites", some of the most emblematic dishes from their menus adapted to be cooked in line with the essence of the festival.
This gastronomic experience will be rounded off with the performance of a varied musical programme in which Pájaro Sunrise, La Perra Blanco, Caballo Prieto Azabache, Coni Lechner and Ariel Brínguez, Pedro Ricardo, Andrea Buenavista, Nola Brand Bass, Guacamayo Tropical and Jazzin’ Club will take part. They are all artists with the capacity to merge genres and create unique atmospheres that will fill the space with the best atmosphere and energy.
