Running until February 2025 , this unique experience has been created jointly by the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum and San Miguel Market . Two of the city's most visited tourist attractions, these landmarks have joined forces for this initiative, which features two routes inviting participants to enjoy food culture and art.
Under the name Art & Wine. Madrid Tour , you may have guessed that wine is the guiding theme of this experience. Participants can choose between two different itineraries, starting off with a visit to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum before moving on to a wine tasting session at San Miguel Market.
The first route consists of an audio guide tour through the museum . Here, visitors can take in a selection of works of art from the Wine Culture collection, which focuses on the evolution of wine in artistic representations throughout history. Later (within a period of 7 calendar days after visiting the art instituition), participants can head to the El 19 de San Miguel stand at San Miguel Market, where they will enjoy a wine tasting session which includes 3 different wines and an audio guide . Using a QR code, they will have the opportunity to find out more about the wines they've tasted, their history, tasting notes and pairing recommendations.
The second itinerary on offer is a more personalised experience. This route also kicks off at the museum, but it includes a special behind-the-scenes tour from 9-10am, before the museum opens to the general public. An expert guide will lead visitors through the entire collection during this exclusive visit. Next, participants can make their way to San Miguel Market to kick off the gastronomic part of the tour. A sommelier will welcome the group and guide you through a tasting of five wines, each from a different Spanish Designation of Origin . The tasting will take place in a cordoned-off area in the central part of the market and it will include pairings with dishes from several of the market stalls. This gastronomic experience, revolving around food and Spanish wine, will be guided either by Juanma Galán , maître d' and sommelier at Estimar Madrid, or María José Huertas , sommelier at Paco Roncero Restaurate, the namesake's 2-star Michelin establishment here in the capital.
Both itineraries can be booked through the museum. The first experience costs €45 per person. The second costs €1,100.50 for the full experience for two people, accommodating up to six people in total.
