The tenth edition of the Another Way Film Festival, dedicated to sustainable development and the environment, will be held from 16 to 22 October 2024. As in the previous edition, part of the programming will be dedicated to children's films, and there will also be non-competition sections.
The festival aims to inform, educate and raise awareness about the challenges of the climate crisis as well as society’s regenerative potential. There are also parallel activities around other artistic and cultural aspects linked to sustainability and the triple balance: social, economic and environmental.
The theme of the films submitted to the festival should be sustainable progress. It is free to enter and the deadline for submissions was 23 June 2024 through the Film Free Way platform and the official website. The short films section, sponsored by SIGNUS Ecovalor, is open to national and international submissions, with two prizes worth 600 and 400 euros.
The festival takes place at several venues across the city. The 2023 edition included events at Cineteca Madrid, Cines Golem Madrid, Filmoteca Española, Institut français de Madrid, Filmin and the festival’s online platform.
As usual, the programme will include several films including documentaries, feature films and short films on themes such as climate change, the human relationship with nature, human rights, and the conflict between tradition and modernity. The documentaries selected will be part of the festival programme, which will be divided into two sections: Official and impact.
The Official Section is open to previously unreleased films in Madrid made from 2022 onwards. The Impact Section is intended for productions made since 2020, which do not necessarily have to be previously unreleased in Madrid. The purpose of this latter section is to help publicise titles that, despite their relevant subject matter, have received only a limited release in Spain. In both cases, their duration should be between 60 and 90 minutes and they will be eligible for four prizes and an honourable mention.
The Judges Award for Best Film, which will receive 1500 euros, will only be awarded to the winning film of the Official Section. The other prizes will be awarded regardless of the section. The awards available to feature films include the Audience Award, one per section; and the EELISA (European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance) Honourable Mention, which comes with a grant valued at 2000 euros to show the winning film at some of the universities that make up the alliance. The “Rolling for Change” competition, sponsored by SIGNUS Ecovalor, a collective management system for used tyres, focuses on national and international productions.
The aim of the festival is to create a movement that will go beyond raising social awareness. It seeks to create a platform for sharing stories about what is happening with sustainability, using cinema as a tool to drive and inspire a change in life.
