Nostromo Live, producer of La Cage aux Folles, The Little Shop of Horrors and Singing in the Rain, brings the great comic-musical hit by Mel Brooks to the Nuevo Teatro Alcalá. This production can be seen from 5 March to 19 May, with performances from Tuesday to Sunday, Àngel Llàcer and Enric Cambray as directors, Manu Guix and Gerard Alonso as musical directors and choreography by Miryam Benedited.
This acclaimed production features 24 actors and dancers led by Armando Pita, Ricky Mata, Mireia Portas and Àngel Llàcer as the stage director, who are accompanied by a live orchestra.
The plot presents Max Bialystock, a Broadway producer who is broke, and Leo Bloom, a young accountant. They both dream of becoming rich with a surprising plan: produce the biggest flop in the history of musical theatre and run off with the investors' money. However, putting on an absolute theatrical disaster is not as easy as it sounds, as they need to find the worst script, the worst management team, the worst actors and stage an absolutely dreadful show.
They also need money, so they start seducing elderly multi-millionaires to get the capital they need to later try to escape to Rio de Janeiro. All of this is interspersed with hilarious situations, charming characters and wonderful musical numbers.
Based on the 1960 film of the same name, this comedy was written by Mel Brooks in 1967 and is the musical that holds the record for having won the most awards ever, including twelve Tony Awards in 2001, an Oscar for the Best Original Script in 1969 and a Grammy for the Best Musical Theatre Album in 2002.
