On 7 December, IFEMA MADRID (Pavilion 1) presents a tribute to one of the most influential bands in the history of rock. A concert that marks the closing of the European tour with all Dire Straits’s biggest hits such as Brothers in Arms, Walk of Life, and Sultans of Swing, and which features musicians who regularly played with the band, such as saxophonist Chris White.
Although Dire Straits split up three decades ago, their music is still hugely popular all around the world, with over 120 million albums sold and an influence that continues to captivate new generations.
The show now coming to Madrid will feature some genuine music legends, musicians who worked directly with the original band such as Chris White, who played on the Brothers in Arms and On Every Street tours, as well as historic concerts such as Live Aid; Terence Reis on lead guitar; Richard Bennett (guitars and vocals), John Maul and Michael Bramwell (keyboards),YoYo Buys (bass) and Luke Naimi (drums).
The band Dire Straits formed in 1977 and quickly made a name for themselves on the rock scene thanks to the talent of frontman Mark Knopfler and the success of their first single, Sultans of Swing. Their back catalogue includes iconic albums such as Dire Straits (1978), Making Movies (1980), and Brothers in Arms (1985), which was one of the best-selling albums of the decade, selling more than 30 million copies. Although the band split up in 1995, their music is still hugely popular around the world, with hits such as Money for Nothing and Walk of Life.
